Best Cooperative Board Games (Award Winners)

In a cooperative board game the table wins or loses together, which removes the one thing that ruins game night for a lot of groups: someone getting knocked out or picked on. Every game below is fully cooperative and has been recognized by at least one independent award jury.

25 award-winning games, ranked by award recognition.

How we picked these games

  • Fully cooperative — players share a win condition against the game itself
  • Covers everything from short filler co-ops to long campaign games
  • Recognized by at least one independent award program
  • Ranked by the number of separate juries that agreed

We don't accept payment for inclusion or ranking. How we recommend.

Common questions

What is a cooperative board game?

One where all players work as a single team against the game's own systems. There is no winner among the players — the group either beats the scenario together or loses together.

Do cooperative games work for families?

Particularly well. Nobody is eliminated, an experienced player can coach without breaking the rules, and losing is a shared outcome rather than a personal one.

What is the quarterbacking problem?

It is when one confident player effectively takes over and directs everyone else's turns. Designs that hide information between players — such as co-ops where you cannot show your hand — largely prevent it.
